Many, many Christians wear the cross around their necks or wrists as a symbol of their faith. Many of those who wear the cross, however, have not accepted what really happened on that cross. This is a big problem.
See, Catholics, Mormons, etc. all believe that Jesus died on the cross, but what they don’t believe involves the horribly horrific punishment that was taken there.
Up until 50 years after Jesus’ death, sacrificial animals were used as a way of covering sin. The keyword there is “covering”. These sacrifices did not wash away sin but only covered it. This was a problem, a problem Jesus Christ intended to fix.
Right before Jesus was brought before His “judges”, He prayed, “O My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me: nevertheless not as I will, but as Thou wilt.”
That cup that got such a strong response from Christ (He starting sweating blood), was a cup that held all the sins of the world. Imagine that! A cup filled to the brim with a disgusting smell filled with the sins of every human being that ever lived!
Because Jesus was sinless He could not die. There was only one way for Christ to die. He had drink of the sins of the human race and surrender His life to God’s mercy! What a magnificent thing Jesus did for us on that cross! So much more than we could ever imagine.
