August 29, A.D. 70 is a day that will live in infamy for many. This includes Christians and Jews with an understanding of the events that happened that year.

The onslaught of war had been anticipated for awhile. Jews had been uprising against Roman rule for a very long time. During this time Christians had been spreading abut the world. Actually, shortly before this is when a fire broke out in Rome, killing many and ruining many people’s homes and lives. The Christians were blamed for this and many were brutally killed.

Well, the setting for this horrible day in August starts about four years prior. The Jews had revolted and purged their holy city of Romans. But, when the emperor heard of this he sent a man named Vespasian and he was joined by Titus and together they went to war against the Jews.

The Jews were quickly taken care of and the Romans pillaged Jerusalem. But, the turning point of this day was when the Romans, against their orders, burned and tore down the Temple. In fact, the golden objects had melted and seeped between the cracks of the rocks and the Romans literally tore every stone off each other to get the gold!

But, why is this so important, besides the information about the Jews, to a Christian? Well, when the disciples lead Jesus by the Temple He said, “See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”

About 40 years later this exact event occurred!
